This is going to be a little bit awkward, but I need to start this week’s post out with an uncomfortable question. Take a seat, breathe in and out, and get ready for it…
When’s the last time you felt truly ALONE?
For years I cried out to God in my loneliness. For years I would strive every single day to surround myself with people just so that I could avoid that hollow feeling of loneliness that tugged at my heart. I am sure that it’s different for everyone, but for me, the loneliness would manifest itself as insecurity. Feeling misunderstood. Disrespected. Unimportant. All very different feelings and scenarios, but each one led me deeper into this dark place where I began to believe the lie that “I am alone.”
NOBODY likes that feeling, but we all experience it a time or two.
Thankfully, one day, God met me in the darkest of the darkness, and began to speak His Truth into my life. He began to fill the most broken places of my soul. He began to erase every single identity that I had heard from relationships over the years, and replaced them with one from His very mouth. Now, years later, I can honestly say that I can’t even remember the last time I felt that same loneliness.
I began to believe the words that God whispered to me from Psalm 33:18 –
“Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love..”
The eye of the Lord is on me!
One of my favorite names for God in the Bible is “El Roi” which means “the God who sees me.” Have you ever thought about the fact that the Lord sees you? His eyes are ALWAYS on you, His beloved child. Why? Because He loves you! And not only that, but His love is STEADFAST for you.
To truly understand just how LOVED you are, you have to first understand what God even means by using this word, “steadfast” to describe His love. It means fixed in direction, firm in purpose, unwavering, firmly established, and firmly fixed in place.
This means that:
- God’s love is fixed on us. – It is firm, permanently in place. We cannot escape His love; His grip on us is tight.
- God’s love is unwavering. – He doesn’t get wishy washy. He has firmly established His love for us, and it is always going to be there. ALWAYS. No matter what.
Do you realize that NO ONE ELSE’S LOVE CAN DO THIS?!
Knowing this and then beginning to believe it as Truth is what changed my outlook on loneliness. I learned that I am never really alone. It may seem like it physically sometimes, but in reality, God’s love is always surrounding me. And it is surrounding you, too! Do you believe it?
Only until you’re able to begin to throw away the lies and replace them with the Truth about God’s love, will you truly be able to fully know that you are not alone, and that you absolutely never will be.
